Like what's there to say about this guy? He fights for justice, can copy weapons from the other Robot Masters, has a lot of skill, loved by many, hated by some, and has a hope for a peaceful future. That's what makes this robot a popular icon in his universe.

Trust me, he's that great.

Mega Man (also known as Rockman in Japan); is a fighting robot designed and remodeled by Dr. Light to stop the evil desires of Dr. Wily. Before he was Mega Man, he was once a lab-assistant named Rock, along with his sister, Roll, a house-keeping robot, they both helped Dr. Light in his labs for his upcoming project and Rock and Roll's soon-to-be brothers; The Robot Masters; Cut Man, Guts Man, Ice Man, Bomb Man, Fire Man, Elec Man, Time Man and Oil Man (Time Man and Oil Man though were too advanced to be completed). Before they were all fianlly released to the public for they're first days on the job, Dr. Wily; Dr. Light's former colleague, snuck into the lab and reprogrammed the first six Robot Masters to obey his orders and wreck havoc though-out the city. Rock, having a strong scene of justice, begs Dr. Light to remodel him into a fighting robot to save his brothers and stop Dr. Wily's reign, thus the covered fighting robot was then forth to be nicknamed "Mega Man". He has a long history of fighting each and ever-growing rouge robots by Dr. Wily and halting his plans for world domination by traveling all across the world to track them down a stop all of them. He is equipped with his main weapon, The Mega Buster; an ambidextrous arm cannon that can fire three bullets of highly compressed solar energy and can even pass though walls. In MM4 to MM&B, it can also charge energy for up to two degrees, firing more powerful charged shots, it's uncharged shots are powerful as well, they're capable of puncturing steel and destroying boulders. A single, uncharged "Solar Bullet" can blow a five foot diameter hole in a wall of solid stone. It's also equipped with a special Weapon Copy System that allow him to copy other Robot Masters weapons with just a simple touch and changing his armor color has well. He can also slide though small gaps as well. His A.I. personalty depicts him to be extremely courageous; fighting because he wants to do the right thing and stop evil and though he's now a fighting robot, he's a pacifist and doesn't like to fight and well always try to find an alternative to violence, also meaning he's kind, generous and polite. However, Wily's frequent false repentances have become a constant frustration to Mega Man who appears to developing less patience with him, however he nonetheless assists him when he becomes ill in MM10. His siblings all notably look up to him and even Proto Man has occasionally shown he's willing to defer to his younger brother for orders.
